Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. (Underline mine)
Under the Mosaic covenant, everything in the OT was merely a ‘shadow’ of things to come. In other words God never revealed anything in its fullness in the OT. If we look at what Paul writes in the NT, he said that when Jesus was born of the virgin, the period called the ‘fullness of time’ was initiated. This actually means that from this particular time onwards God wants to deal with all His people from a ‘position of fullness’ and not from a position of ‘types and shadows’.
Under the Levitical Priesthood, tithers were given a ‘poured blessing’ that was beyond their capacity to receive, as spoken by the prophet Malachi. If we study this carefully we see that God had not yet established a crucible that would contain the ‘fullness of the blessing of Abraham’.
When Jesus cried, ‘it is finished!’…The OT transitional period stopped instantly! Types and shadows came to a sudden end. Jesus’ death on the cross now marked the beginning of a new day! This means fullness in everything and for everything.
Now, please hear this…when we give a tithe, that is based on the Priestly order of Melchizedek…our tithe has the power to infinitely ‘increase our spiritual capacity to receive the fullness of the blessing of Abraham’, which God wants to confer on all His children.
No wonder the Ephesian letter says…‘we are blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ Jesus’.
1 Cor 2:9,10
But as it is written: Eye has not see, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God ahs prepared for those that love him.
Now let us go a bit further…
When we look at Abraham’s life, beginning for the time he met with Melchizedek (Gen 14), till the time he died, we discover an amazing treasure trove of truth and revelation!
Abraham’s understanding of tithing was passed down to Jacob too.
After his memorable meeting with Melchizedek, Abraham’s life took another significant turn. God told him to sacrifice his only son on Mount Moriah. As difficult as it might have been, Abraham obeyed God, and took his only son Isaac atop Moriah…when they go to the top of the Mountain, Abraham bound his son Isaac and placed him on the altar to sacrifice him to God.
This is important…there are three spiritual elements that are connected deeply and inseparably. One cannot do without the other and we cannot mix and match as it were! These are…tithes, sacrifices and priesthood.
Here’s what we learn from the Scriptures…you can never ‘offer tithes or sacrifices’ to any deity without going through a deity’s designated priesthood.
So the question arises…when Abraham offered his son Isaac as a sacrifice to God on Mount Moriah, what priesthood was he associating his sacrifice with?
Here’s the simple but profound answer…the eternal Priestly order of Melchizedek. This was the only spiritual priesthood that was revealed to Abraham, and Abraham ever knew all his life.
Now what took place is mentioned in Gen 22: 15-18. Just before Abraham struck Isaac with the deathblow, God stopped him. God blessed him for his obedience. God gave him promises and blessed all his descendants.
Abraham called the name of that place ‘Jehovah-Jireh’, the Lord shall provide at His Mountain! This is not merely one of the names of God…but a spiritual dimension in God. A place in the realm of the Spirit where God Himself is. It is a place where Abraham discovered at the most significant time of his life. This place comes with utter obedience to God.
Now this spiritual place is even with us today. Jehovah-Jireh is a place of unlimited supply of God’s spiritual and material supply…for what? For nothing but advancing the Kingdom of God here on earth.
This means when we tithe we are opening a spiritual pathway which can lead us to a no-limit blessing. You see, when Abraham, offered his only son…in total obedience…God was so deeply moved over this one act of obedience that He sealed Abraham’s life with blessing. That seal was an unchangeable oath to bless both him and his descendants.
According to the NT we are his descendants by faith if we are born again and walk in obedience to His Word, we enter into that oath…and thus into a no-limit blessing.
Don’t let the Devil rob you with his lies and deceit.
You have a promise, a blessing and a great future…all you need is obedience!
